Finding senior care for a parent with little or no money is hard but not hopeless — Florida has safety-net programs that can help.
Programs to tap
Florida's SMMC Long-Term Care Medicaid waiver covers much of the cost of care for those who qualify; Medicaid covers nursing-home care fully. SSI, SNAP, housing vouchers, and Area Agency on Aging programs add support.
Veterans may qualify for VA Aid & Attendance or a State Veterans' Home.
Where to start
Apply for Medicaid through DCF ACCESS and request a CARES assessment. A free advisor or the Elder Helpline can identify which programs your parent qualifies for and which communities accept them.
